We're going to hear more from SpringTime's partner, Jeff Gardner and his book,"Love Your People." But first I want to thank AVL Growth Partners for their support of the VC Minute.

00:00:19.897 --> 00:00:25.568
They've been a trusted financial ally providing invaluable insights to several of our portfolio companies.

00:00:26.068 --> 00:00:31.077
I've known them through the startup community for over a decade and they have a stellar reputation.

00:00:31.577 --> 00:00:36.948
Head to AVLgrowth.com and explore how they can be pivotal to your growth.

00:00:37.445 --> 00:00:38.795
AVL Growth Partners.

00:00:39.195 --> 00:00:40.215
Your success.

00:00:40.515 --> 00:00:41.715
Their expertise.

00:00:42.715 --> 00:00:56.588
One of the key parts to setting up a great organization, it's really easy when it's you as a founder, you as a founder on a small team, but as you get bigger, when you articulate your vision, a key component of that is your core values.

00:00:57.338 --> 00:01:00.078
You must live by your core values.

00:01:00.578 --> 00:01:06.156
An example of that is Tylenol and Johnson Johnson, way back when they had the cyanide poisoning.

00:01:06.486 --> 00:01:12.296
They went back to their core values and why they exist, and that allowed them to make the right decision.

00:01:13.096 --> 00:01:27.073
An example at a more micro level that I've had in my organization was we were in the middle of raising capital, and we found out that our very best salesperson he's been coming in early and he's scooping off the best leads in the morning.

00:01:27.573 --> 00:01:35.543
One of our core values was being honorable and that clearly was in violation of being honorable.

00:01:36.093 --> 00:01:38.516
I had the conversation with my head of sales.

00:01:38.527 --> 00:01:45.141
He's like,"what should we do?" He was concerned that you never want to miss your numbers when you're in a two month process as far as raising capital.

00:01:45.591 --> 00:01:54.802
And you want to make sure that you can deliver, but this is a clear violation at the highest level, as far as your core values The conversation was, it was actually a really short one.

00:01:55.222 --> 00:02:00.510
If we don't do something people are going to think we're just absolutely full of shit with our core values.

00:02:01.010 --> 00:02:04.281
It's something that we must live by and we must respect.

00:02:04.781 --> 00:02:13.004
So we walked the individual out of the building, shared with the rest of the sales team what had happened and the importance of continuing to make our numbers.

00:02:13.705 --> 00:02:15.245
We actually got a standing ovation.

00:02:15.776 --> 00:02:24.134
They knew that there were issues going on with this individual and this sales team stepped up and way over delivered.

00:02:24.435 --> 00:02:27.074
Not just the next month, but continued into the future.

00:02:27.574 --> 00:02:35.844
The whole level of the organization was lifted by us focusing on our core values and making sure we did what was right for the organization.
