00:00:01.000 --> 00:00:05.466
You are not going to get right people 100 percent of the time.

00:00:06.256 --> 00:00:09.198
That should be your goal, but just know that it's not going to happen.

00:00:09.948 --> 00:00:14.637
I've hired thousands of people at this point, we will still get it wrong from time to time.

00:00:15.137 --> 00:00:22.457
The studies out there show that they range from, you get it right 40 percent of the time some say you get it right up to 80 percent of the time.

00:00:22.777 --> 00:00:26.201
But think about you're getting it, let's call it 50 to 60 percent of the time.

00:00:26.501 --> 00:00:30.780
So how do you increase the probability that you are going to hire the right people?

00:00:31.568 --> 00:00:46.262
The methodology that I love and I have found works so well is actually written by a gentleman named Geoffrey Smart, and the book is called"Who." I recommend it to people all of the time.

00:00:46.762 --> 00:00:51.634
It provides a very disciplined approach to hiring people.

00:00:52.113 --> 00:00:54.914
It starts with getting a scorecard together.

00:00:55.253 --> 00:01:01.564
One of the things we've talked previously about setting expectations, setting the big three, knowing what each person needs to deliver each quarter.

00:01:01.564 --> 00:01:13.144
If you sit down and say, listen, I'm going to hire a head of sales and the goals for this person is they need to be able to take me from 5 million to 25 million in the next 3 years.

00:01:13.554 --> 00:01:15.944
They need to be able to hire an A team.

00:01:16.263 --> 00:01:17.893
You have very specific goals.

00:01:17.893 --> 00:01:22.722
And so when you're interviewing them, you're not interviewing for some abstractness.

00:01:22.912 --> 00:01:27.272
You're going very, very specific and finding out, has this person done this?

00:01:27.272 --> 00:01:30.253
Have they taken a company from 5 to 25?

00:01:30.572 --> 00:01:32.293
Have they hired the A team?

00:01:32.793 --> 00:01:44.275
Part of the process is you're continually peeling back the onion and asking deeper and deeper questions to be able get to the answers to understand the way this person ticks.

00:01:44.724 --> 00:01:49.125
And then you score it up, and you lay side by side all the candidates you're considering for the position.

00:01:49.875 --> 00:01:58.221
I have found that when you are this disciplined with this process, we have pushed our hiring the right person up above the 90 percent mark.

00:01:59.021 --> 00:02:02.739
Highly recommend this book it's called The Who Methodology" written by Geoff Smart.

00:02:03.039 --> 00:02:11.876
It takes time but if you think about the time and energy it takes when you hire the wrong person it is a huge time saver in the long run.
